Cosmetic Surgery on the Rise in Men
For decades, plastic surgery procedures have largely been a woman’s game. But today more and more men are stepping up to the plate. According to a 2018 report from the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the number of cosmetic procedures performed among men has increased over 325% since 1991.
While 90.7% of plastic surgery procedures are still purchased by women compared to 9.3% purchased by men, doctors and business owners should still be doing more to tap into a male audience base.
Men often choose plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures to maintain their competitive edge in the dating world and/or in the workplace. What’s more, more men are focused on grooming; it is far more acceptable for a man to want to have enhancements than in previous days.
A recent New York University Medical Center study revealed that most marketing campaigns carried out by plastic surgeons are directed toward females. After analyzing 453 websites and 4,239 images on plastic surgeons’ websites, only 5% of the pictures included males, and 0.9% showed both men and women together—plus only 22% of these websites included any services related directly to males.
So what are men interested in when it comes to cosmetic procedures?
Here’s a list, according to 2016 statistics that were also released by the ASAPS:
Laser Liposuction

One final important note:
more and more men are turning their shopping experiences into social experiences, comparing prices and discussing them with others via social media. This provides an excellent opportunity for doctors and business owners to attract male clients through online advertising and social media. By paying attention to trends and behaviors, you can tap into the male market and get your biz ahead of the curve.
